Wardrobe recycling is not something I just learned but a lesson my Mom taught me as a child. Money was always tight so my mom sewed most of my clothes including my school uniform. I remember for high school we had to wear navy pleated skirts. She made my skirt extra long because she wanted it to last me for all 5 years of high school. Unwittingly I sported a new trend every year — maxi, midi, knee length, mini. After high school for A-level College we still needed a navy pleated skirt. My mom switched my skirt to the wrong side so it won’t look so washed out and let down the hem. It had to last another two years.

Fast forward to today and I still stretch my wardrobe. With social media, and our penchant for sharing, it seems like we “just” wore that outfit yesterday! Added to that, there’s this unspoken and in truth self imposed pressure to not repeat an outfit, especially if you’re a celebrity. Hear me loud and clear — I do not subscribe to this notion at all! Thankfully celebrities like Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton are letting us know that wardrobe recycling is a DO!
I can’t wrap my mind around the thought of wearing something only once, especially if I love the piece… and I only buy clothes I love! So I am always refreshing and reworking the pieces in my wardrobe. I wear skirts and tops over or under dresses depending on what look I’m going for and I’ve even worn dresses as skirts (no it was not a tube dress!). I’ve also used scarves and ribbons as belts or added pom poms to old shoes and handbags to make them trendier. So when I picked out a few pieces from the Who What Wear Collection subconsciously I was thinking about how I can work them together and re-work them with what I already have to extend my wardrobe.
I picked up the black and white dress because I love mixed prints and when it ready done that’s a win! I wear this dress three different ways! If you read my ‘Making the transition from Summer to cooler weather‘ blog you’d remember my bow sleeve sweater. See how I worked it in! And I also got their floral pencil skirt which I wore over my dress. I also worked in my love of red — falls it color — throughout!
