Fashion Nerd, Amy Roiland shares her story

fashionnerd0

The dictionary defines nerd as “a person considered to be socially awkward, boring, and unstylish. Yet Amy Roiland, the CEO of Fashion Tap and self proclaimed fashion nerd  is anything but socially awkward, unstylish or boring. In fact, Amy’s distinctive style in her instagram gallery would have you oohing and aahing. She was also fearless enough to brave the sharks on Shark Tank, to share her vision for Fashion Tap — a social network for the fashion world that lets you make money — and say no.

5 Tips to Younger Blogging Self_5

Today,  Amy still stands by her decision and inspires us to fight for our dreams, stand for what we want,  know when to say no and let patience be our mantra. See what else Amy shared with me in this weeks fashNcurious 5:

What’s the inspiration for your style?

Gucci and Wes Anderson for sure. I love prints and colors and I love mixing different pieces together. I pull from them every day for my style inspiration.

How has your style evolved over the years?

I used to be really all over the place with my style, I didn’t know what my style was. One day I was bohemian the next day I dressed like a British boy  — blazer and skinny jeans. I feel like lately I am really loving my new found style. I will stick to this for a while. I mix modern day styles with vintage and I emphasize on accessories most, handbags, shoes, hats, eye wear, etc.

Why did you start blogging and what keeps you blogging?

I love sharing my outfits with the world, it makes me happy. I love to create art with my clothes. I started blogging to share this with everyone. I continue to blog because I am almost at 1000 blog posts and I want to get there!

What did you learn from your experience on Shark Tank?

Patience is everything

Why did you say no to Shark Tank. Do you regret saying no?

I don’t regret a thing, I am very proud of how I handled myself on the show. I looked like a BOSS. I said no because she was not the right partner for me at all. She works in real estate not fashion. She really liked me as an entrepreneur but she did not understand what I had already built and that bummed me out. I want a partner who really understands what my Fashion Tap does and what it can be and help me push it to another level. She was also asking for WAY too much of my company. We had already spent over $140k to create the app so to accept $100k for 25% would have been foolish.  I would’ve looked like a desperate girl who did not know the tech industry and my worth.

What’s your vision for Fashion Tap today?

We have a new team and we are bringing on a new partner soon, I believe we will be taking it to China.

What advice would you give to bloggers who want to monetize their instagram and blogs?

  1. Be consistent

2. Be organized

3. Have a vision and strong style

4. Be unique

5. Monetize all your social networks. You can use Fashion Tap to monetize your Instagram and other networks. We make all social networks shoppable and monetizable — not many people know that.

Give us a glimpse of Amy the person, what do you have in your handbag right now?

A pink prada wallet, cash, a nude lipstick, a pin, and my Betty and Veronica cards!

What a great interview! I have heard over and over to be consistent and organized ha yet these are the things I struggle with the most. Good for her for saying no to the sharks and sticking to her guns!
