8 Top Picks From The Cushnie Spring/Summer Collection (SS19)

I saw Carly Cushnie for the first time on Good Morning Texas in May of 2017. She was here in Dallas to launch her brand at Nordstrom. At that time it was still Cushnie et Ochs. Her beautiful pieces captivated me. Truthfully though the quiet strength I could feel right in my living room was a much more powerful force. The island girl in me cheered for Carly Cushnie and I immediately reached out to try and get an interview for my fashNcurious 5 series. It reminds me of a saying I heard from my old professor “all things being equal friends buy from friends. All things being unequal friends still buy from friends.” I wanted her clothes not just because of their feminine edge but because I identified with the woman behind them.

On The Runway

Her journey has been remarkable! Last year for her NYFW Spring 2018 show I saw invitations via Instagram for seats at her show. Fast forward to this  year and there were no such offers as her show was filled to capacity. The lush green accents of the runway and the mirrored effect reminded me of the Caribbean. My immediate thought was the rebirth of Cushnie with her first solo show, dictated her going back to her heritage with a nod to her Jamaican parents.

All 37 pieces of her collection screamed femininity with the way they gently skimmed the body in all the right places. I loved the well placed details and the cut outs. And I see a lot of dumb bell pressing in my future as the shoulders are on full display. If I were to pick just one piece from the Cushnie collection it would be the white slip dress with the sexy lace inset. I can imagine dressing it up or down for a gala or a stroll on the beach.
