The statement sleeves trend

Statement sleeves

There was a time when we were all looking for that statement shoe — I like to call them my “speak to me shoes.” — or even a statement bag. Today however, we are all about the statement sleeves — frilled, ruffled, bubbled, bishop…you name it! (Cue Shirley Caesar’s song HA!) Its quite fascinating actually. The longer, the more ruffles, the more dramatic the better. A quick scan through your instagram feed and you’ll immediately see that the “statement sleeves is a must“!

Thinking of making fashion statements with sleeves, shoes, or bags for that matter I couldn’t help but think of what statement if any we make every day with our lives. Often times we place so much emphasis on our physical appearance and neglect our hearts. The Bible tells us in Galatians 5 that “the fruit of the spirits is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.” While we want to be in style and on trend with our fashion statements it’s more important to be “in style spiritually. Let’s be careful to consider our hearts and lives that we are making a Godly statement as well and showing the fruits of the spirit.

Thank you for this. First I definitely want to add more drama to my wardrobe. Second, I am hoping that by not settling in my appearance and in my dreams my daughter will see that and not settle herself. I grew up constantly being told I was fat and needed to lose weight by people who were suppose to love me unconditionally. I was always told that I had to wear things to hide my body or were baggy and wouldn’t show off any rolls I had. If my daughter ends up having a curvy body like her momma, I don’t want her to feel she can’t have certain things in her life because of her appearance.
