“No man ever achieved worth-while success who did not, at one time or other, find himself with at least one foot hanging well over the brink of failure.” ~ Napoleon Hill
Your hanging foot
One thing we love to do as a family is watch sports – especially basketball and football. And when there’s a championship game it gives us an immediate excuse to have a party – a family party of three that is, with all the fixings! Even as I’m writing this West Virginia’s Konate is putting on a blocking clinic in the background. Watching these games however there’s much more than entertainment, but life lessons in every play, every decision made by the coach, every “foot hanging well over the brink of failure.” [You can shop my athleisure look here or below including these fabulous adidas swift run sneakers!]
After a Sack
This past week has been rife with these lessons. At the National College Football Championship game Alabama, after trailing Georgia by 13 points at the half, gave the reins to a freshman. A freshman!!! This same freshman quarterback was sacked in overtime for a 16-yard loss on Alabama’s very first play in overtime. I thought, “poor young man.” Just as I was waiting to see how he responded to adversity, millions in the stadium and around the world were doing the same. Well, he showed us that champions persevere and pick themselves up after every setback and find a way to win. He immediately got up and threw a perfect pass for a touchdown and the championship — no hesitation, no second guessing . He pulled his foot from the brink of failure to the height of success.
10 Second Win
How do you score a game winning touchdown with 10 seconds left and 61 yards to go? Ask the Minnesota Vikings. Last Sunday Stefon Diggs and the “Minnesota Miracle” saved the day and the season for the Vikings. It has been 41 seasons since the Vikings have been to the Super Bowl. Sunday their season had one foot, perhaps even two feet set in vacation mode. Even with 10 seconds left on the clock and ESPN’s win-probability model giving them only a 2.6 percent chance to win, they never gave up.
Blogger life lessons
As bloggers we all have goals for our blogs and brands we dream of collaborating with. No matter what it looks like, no matter how improbable, no matter how many “seasons” have passed and you still haven’t realized your dream, don’t give up. Even if your foot is seemingly stuck, hanging over the brink of failure, remember that winning often comes in the face of certain loss.
Great reflection! We only know gain by understanding loss!
