5 romantic must dos in Kennebunkport Maine

Kennebunkport is one of the most magical and romantic looking towns I’ve ever visited! As soon as we drove in the red lights on all the buildings and their “LOVE KPT” sign twinkled hello. It was as if they were saying, “welcome to our quiet town.” My husband quipped that it looked like it was straight out of a movie. And it did. The quaint historic buildings, tree lined two lane streets and 25 miles an hour speed limit made for a perfect getaway for our anniversary. Our stay was quite idyllic and I’m certain it won’t be our last trip to Kennebunkport. There was so much we wanted to do and experience. Since it’s Valentines weekend and the month of love I am sharing some of our most romantic must dos in Kennebunkport.

romantic must dos

Romantic igloo for two please

The igloos at Kennebunkport Inn are the epitome of romance and magic. Drinks and appetizers in one of these igloos shouldn’t be a bucket list item but something to experience at least once yearly if not more! You’re zipped into your own private winter wonderland with a clear view of the stars and lights strung across the deck. I’d suggest getting there early to catch a sunset too! The igloos are made from material used for a greenhouse so they do retain heat plus they are equipped with a heater. Even if they weren’t however the adventurer in me would still be in there! The igloos are up until March and are only a tiny slice of the
Kennebunkport Inn experience. So schedule your trip and make a reservation pronto for this romantic must do!

Beach look out

One highlight of our trip was our early morning jaunt to the beach after a night at the Seaside Inn. We sat on the private bench for Seaside Inn guests and watched the sunrise while listening to the roar of the waves. It was windy and cold yet so much fun! You could hear our loud laughter as we chased each other down to the water’s edge. It tapped into the child within us and the little girl in me cheered! It reminded me of all the things I loved to do as a kid that as adults we now think are no nos. Sometimes we need to let that child have a say in our adult life. You can top off the experience with coffee and a history lesson on nine generations of innkeepers back at the inn.

A lunch date puzzle

One thing I noticed in Kennebunkport is that many of the restaurants have games at the tables — trivia cards. H.B Provisions has trivia cards, board games and a zillion piece puzzle – not for the faint at heart. This would be a perfect place for a romantic lunch date. Their sandwiches are delicious especially the crab salad and maple bacon sandwich. It is to die for! Add the puzzle and their perfect view of street passersby and it’s a win. Romance is about creating moments and the atmosphere at H.B delivers a charm reminiscent of the old western days. I wish I could look back at all the love stories that started in this General Store.

Roasting Marshmallows

Dinner at the Boathouse Hotel is a must. Their food is delicious so you can’t go wrong here. What makes this location special however is its’ enviable spot right on the Kennebunk river. I could sit here and look out at the shadows of the boats and lights of the city all night. Ask for the cozy Love Kpt corner! My favorite part however is that they have fire pits on the deck/patio overlooking the water. I told my husband that we could roast marshmallows and then he could pop the question yet again! I promised to squeal yes even louder. Ha!

Cocktails on the Beach

Our waiter extraordinaire Eric Thomas from the Kennebunkport Inn suggested a trip to Parsons Beach. He said it was one of the prettiest beaches he had ever visited. He even promised to join us and bring the cocktails the next time we were in town. I’d have to admit that the drive there with the arch of the trees was quite beautiful. I can imagine shutting down the beach for a private wedding. Wouldn’t that be something? But I digress… The Parson’s Beach was indeed beautiful and quiet. I immediately envisioned a date of snuggling and sipping on cocktails while sharing dreams.

What’s great about these romantic must dos is that you don’t have to wait for Valentines weekend or February. Kennebunkport is full of great eating, pockets of history, beautiful beaches, and a slew of other activities. Have you been to Kennebunkport? What are other romantic must dos in Kennebunkport Maine?
